A profile of McDonald’s development chef in Time. I think one paragraph in the article really summed up why his existence isn’t really felt:
Nothing gets on the menu at McDonald’s without the approval of hundreds of people
Hence, the changes that make it through are the kind that hundreds of people will OK (small revisions & alternate versions). Food designed by committee.
